When In Doubt, Sigh It Out...
Magic Minis #1
Breathwork isn’t just a wellness tool... it’s a way to ground, reset, and reclaim your energy in any moment. In this first episode of Magic Minis, a new series from Breathwork Magic, I dive into one of the most underrated and accessible Breathwork practices: the intentional sigh.
We sigh naturally when we’re overwhelmed, stressed, or even relieved. But what if you could use that same breath on purpose to calm your nervous system, clear out tension, and shift your mindset instantly?
That’s the magic of the sigh, and it’s something you can do literally anywhere... no mat, no meditation, no rules.

Welcome to Breathwork Magic, the podcast that explores the life-changing power of your breath. Breathwork isn't just a practice. It's a gateway to healing, transformation, and shifting to a new mindset by letting go of the past and embracing the possibilities of the present moment. I'm Amanda Russo, your host, a certified breathwork facilitator, level 2 Reiki practitioner, and creator of the Mando's Mindset Podcast. On my own journey, Breathbook has been a powerful tool for releasing what no longer serves me and shifting my perspective to step into my fullest and greatest potential. Each week, I'm joined by inspiring guests, Blackbook facilitators, healers, and wellness enthusiasts who share how this practice has helped them and their clients heal, grow, and embrace lasting change. So take a deep breath. In and out. Settle in. Each episode will focus on just one practice. I'll explain what it is, why it works, benefits, and then we'll do it together. Think of this series as your pocket toolkit for everyday calm and mindfulness. Today we're diving in to one of the simplest yet most powerful breathing techniques out there. The sigh. We sigh naturally when we're stressed, when we're worried, believed, or overwhelmed. What if I told you that sighing with intention can instantly calm your nervous system, release tension, and shift your whole state of being. Or as I like to say, it can shift your mindset. And here's the best part. You can do it anywhere. At work, sitting in traffic, walking, in the bathroom, doing a stressful moment. Even with your kids with the toddlers. The sigh is for everyone. So what are some of the benefits of the sigh? A sigh helps release build-up stress in the body and clears stale air from our lungs. It also sends a signal to your nervous system that you're safe, helping reduce anxiety very quickly. It resets your breathing rhythm, bringing in more oxygen and fresh energy. Even a two-year-old could do it. Which makes it a great tool to even teach your kids when they are upset or disappointed or sad about sighing. Another benefit to the sigh is you can do it literally anywhere. You can do it if you're driving a car, you can do it if you're walking down the street. And that's something I really love about the sigh. Because you're listening to breath work magic. You know, I believe in the magic and the power of breath work. There's science behind it. There have been many guests and myself who have talked about the benefits and the power of breath work. However, you can't just do breath work at any time. Not conscious connected breath work. You're not just gonna close your eyes and open your mouth as you're driving down the street, but you could do the psi. So that's my personal favorite benefit. A few oil life examples. When can you use the psi, or when would it benefit you the most to use the psi? Maybe you have a difficult boss or a difficult colleague, or your job's really difficult, you can step into the bathroom, sigh it out, and reset yourself before going back to work. Takes a couple minutes. Parents, when your toddler is having a meltdown, sigh with them. It shows them how to release. Even for our young'uns, for the kids, because they can sigh at school, they can sigh on the playground if they get upset with another kid. Another real life example. Before a conversation that makes you nervous, take one big sigh. You will feel lighter and more grounded. Even at the end of the day, a sigh in your car before walking inside your home can help you leave the day outside and in the car away from your sanctuary. Now, let's try this together. I invite you to find a comfortable position. Sitting or standing. You can do this if you're at the gym. You can do this if you are listening to me in the car. But find a comfortable position. Whether you're sitting or standing, either is okay. Allow your shoulders to soften. Unclench your jaw. Take one slow inhale through your nose. And now let it all go with a big audible sigh out your mouth. Now let's do that again. Inhale gently through your nose. Feel your belly, your ribs, your chest. And then release with a sigh, letting your body melt. Let's do that one more time. Deep breath in. Maybe even lift your shoulders this time. And let it all go with the biggest sigh of relief. Notice how you feel right now. Maybe a little softer. A little lighter. More space inside. More present. And that was just sighing three times. You can do it more times. You can do it less. But you can do it anywhere. You don't need me to guide you. You don't need to close your eyes. You don't need a yoga man. Or an I'm a. You just need to let it out. Sigh it out. The sigh is proof. That healing and releasing doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes the simplest practices bring the biggest relief. So the next time you feel tension building up, sigh it out. Try it before bed. In between meetings. Or even when rocking your toddler to sleep. Thank you so much for joining me for this practice on Breathwork Magic. If this resonated with you, share this episode with someone who could use a quick breath and a reminder of how powerful the sigh really is. Until next time, keep breathing, keep shifting.
